I was born and raised in The Hague and immigrated to Canada in 1967 with my first husband who could not return to Bangla-Desh, his homeland, and could not work in The Netherlands. We arrived in Ottawa and stayed here for three months, looking for work. Then we moved to Winnipeg where we lived for seven years. I also lived in Moose-Jaw, Lachine and Carleton Place before settling in Ottawa in 1983. As an artist, art writer and curator, I am forever trying to work out the complex relationships between art and life.
