• Close up of a suit jacket sewn out of red lai see (money envelopes)

    Time:
    14:00 - 17:00

After Exclusion, Happy Fruit is an exhibition that celebrates resilience of Chinese people despite the blatant and historical anti-Asian sentiment that Canada’s history bears. 100 years in this country’s past, the Chinese Immigration Act, also known as the Chinese Exclusion Act, was put into effect to further oppress and subjugate Chinese people directly.

Rising above the adversity by choosing to be true to their selves, the Kwan brothers present these sobering truths interwoven with their culture as both Chinese and Canadian, elegantly balancing both identities with levity and joy. The radiance and traces of their loves, families and greater community permeates in every piece of this exhibition, and we at Gallery 101 are honored to have the opportunity to have hosted it within our space.

We invite you to join us in the theme of resistance via celebration to close this exhibition at the Closing Party!
