David Ruben Piqtoukun is an Inuk carver originally from Argo Bay, Northwest Territories, west of Paulatuk. Presently he resides in Sutton West (Jackson's Point). Piqtoukun has worked as a stone carver since 1972. His public commissions can be found in various national and international cities: Vancouver, Edmonton, Inuvik, Kleinburg, Toronto, Ottawa, Washington, Rosario (Argentina), St. Petersburg (Russia), and Changchun (China). Major exhibitions include the group show Out of Tradition, Winnipeg Art Gallery (1989), and the solo show: Between Two Worlds which toured to the Robert McLaughlin Gallery (Oshawa, 1998), the Museum of Civilization (Gatineau, 1997) and the Winnipeg Art Gallery (Winnipeg, 1996). Upcoming shows include: Changing Hands Part 2, Museum of Arts & Design (New York, September 2005), which will travel to seven cities in the U.S.A, and Like a Father and Son, Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian (Santa Fe, November 2005).
