Gabriele Di Matteo was born in Torre del Greco, near Naples, in 1957. Since the mid-1980s, his paintings, objects and publications have explored the nature of reproduced images and icons. Selected solo exhibitions include the FRAC Languedoc-Roussillon, Montpellier, France et le Musée PAB, Alès, France (2005); Musée d'art moderne et contemporain (MAMCO), Genève (2004); the Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea, Galleria 404, Naples, FRAC BRETAGNE, Rennes, France and Le Grand Café, Saint Nazaire, France (2003).
His work has been included in many group exhibitions. 2005: OK, OKAY, Swiss Institute, New York; OK, OKAY, Gray Art Gallery, New York; Quadriennale di Roma, Rome, Italy. 2004: Welcome to Entropia, Centre national d'art et du paysage, Vassivière, curated by Yannick Miloux; Utopia Station, Incursione Vesuviana, Napoli, curated by di Gigiotto Del Vecchio. 2003: Une collection de chefs-d'œuvre, FRAC Limousine; Isola (art) project, (MAMCO), Genève; La Pittura come concetto, Chiesa di S. Under the pseudonym of Armando della Vittoria, Di Matteo is the publisher of artists' printed matter journal E Il Topo, which plays with ideas of appropriation, biography, language, and camouflage. Eleven issues of E Il Topo have been published since 1992. Di Matteo presently lives and works in Milan.
