Gabriele Di Matteo was born in Torre del Greco, near Naples, in 1957. Since the mid-1980s, his paintings, objects and publications have explored the nature of reproduced images and icons. Selected solo exhibitions include the FRAC Languedoc-Roussillon, Montpellier, France et le Musée PAB, Alès, France (2005); Musée d'art moderne et contemporain (MAMCO), Genève (2004); the Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea, Galleria 404, Naples, FRAC BRETAGNE, Rennes, France and Le Grand Café, Saint Nazaire, France (2003). Under the pseudonym of Armando della Vittoria, Di Matteo is the publisher of artists' printed matter journal E Il Topo, which plays with ideas of appropriation, biography, language, and camouflage.
