SoJin Chun is a visual artist and photographer based in Toronto. Chun’s work demonstrates her multi-layered cultural perspective often dealing with issues of identity, place and the everyday. Through her photography, Chun narrates stories that examine the relationship between memory, nostalgia, and longing in the formation of cultural, social and personal identities, reflected in subtle ways in daily life. These artistic explorations stem from the artist’s personal diasporic experience and her hybrid cultural identity (Korea, Bolivia, Canada).

Through artist residencies in Santa Cruz, Bolivia (2007) and Trsic, Serbia (2009), Chun has been able to further explore these notions. Her work has been exhibited in Canada, the United States, Mexico and Bolivia. Chun holds a B.A. in Applied Arts from Ryerson University; a black and white photography certificate from the Maine Photographic Workshops and a Masters in Communications and Culture from Ryerson and York Universities. Chun has been an active member of the Toronto Latino arts community through her affiliations with the Latino Canadian Cultural Association. She has also been an active member of Gallery 44 since 1999 where she is currently the Education Coordinator.
