Taslima Akhter is a renowned photographer from Dhaka, Bangladesh. She holds a master's degree in science and public administration from Dhaka University. While at the university, she was a member of the Bangladesh Student's Federation. She went on to study photojournalism at the Pathshala photography school founded by the renowned photographer and social activist, Shahidul Alam, and currently teaches there.

Akhter’s photography brings attention to social and environmental issues. Her work is driven partly by her experience during Bangladesh’s 2006-2008 political crisis, and politics more broadly. She was among the photographers who documented the fire at Tasreen Garments factory in 2012, one of Bangladesh’s deadliest factory fires. Akhter has worked on projects in several cities in Bangladesh, as well as in Nandigram in India, and her work has been featured in exhibitions around the world. She received the Magnum Foundation scholarship in 2010.

Akhter is a member of the women's organization Biplobi Nari Sanghati and the leftist activist group Gana Sanghati Andolan. She is also a coordinator of the Garments Sramik Sangathan (a garment workers union).
