Join the Gatherers artists in an Intro to Collage workshop led by show curator and artist Kristina Corre.
With insights from her fellow Gatherers artists, Kristina will guide participants through her artistic process, sharing techniques for cutting, composing, and pasting found images to create narrative collage works.
In this 2-hour workshop, participants will use magazines and ephemera provided by Gallery 101 and from the Gatherers' personal collections to add to the exhibition's communal collage piece, as well as to create their own works to bring home.
This workshop is open to all skill levels.
Kristina Corre is a Filipina Canadian artist whose meditative collage works explore cultural and personal identity. Formally trained in architecture, Kristina’s education at the Azrieli School of Architecture & Urbanism at Carleton University instilled in her a meticulousness of craft, a love of materiality, and the importance of narrative in image-making. These three paramount lessons, combined with her explorations into the social, aesthetic, and artistic unpacking of what it means to take up space, are what currently drive her practice of handcut, minimalist found image and object collage.
For Kristina, one of the greatest unexpected joys of her collage practice has been leading workshops and sharing the unique methods of her process to groups large and small, at all skill levels. Collaging is an incredibly accessible art form, and Kristina loves giving folks time, pace and permission to play, cut, and paste. Kristina has been lucky enough to lead workshops at The Westboro Brainery, Possible Worlds Artspace, #Hashtag Gallery, Pineapple Lab Manila, and The National Gallery of Canada (to a crowd of 147 people!).
Gatherers runs until Saturday, April 20th 5pm.
