For too long the drone has been hidden by the tyrants of melody and rhythm. Weird Canada calls upon all drones to come together as one massive drone. Join us at Gallery 101 on the afternoon of Saturday, May 10 to celebrate Drone Day in Ottawa! There is a deeper, more psychological and important reason for the existence of a day where we come together to celebrate drone music. As a gateway into fringe music, drone possesses many convenient qualities: it’s an onomatopoeia ; easy to understand yet broad enough to encapsulate a wide variety of experimental streams. It’s a fixed-point singleton for the avant-garde; challenging, yet accessible to the layperson, with a creative path stretching onto infinite horizons. More importantly: it feels good to massage the mind along sinusoids continuous. National Drone Day is a project of Wyrd Arts Initiatives, a Canadian national non-profit that exists to encourage, document, and connect creative expression across Canada. Wyrd Arts Initiatives is responsible for the award-winning, and likely more familiar, Weird Canada. Weird Canada presents...
