My family is originally from Gaza. Due to the occupation and war, my father became a stateless Palestinian refugee in 1967. He moved to Kuwait city where I was born in 1973. After the Gulf War my family lived in Egypt for several months, and then we had to leave to Syria. I studied Arabic Literature and graduated from Damascus University in 1994. We immigrated to Ottawa in 1995, looking for a peaceful life and a better future. In my paintings, I use anthropomorphic symbols and archaeological elements to suggest personal memories of places and spaces. Currently I am a 3rd year student at the Ottawa School of Art, Fine Art Diploma Program.
